Who are we saving?

Do you remember “Star Trek”? The characters often mentioned the “prime directive” when they encountered what they considered a primitive species.

“In the Star Trek fictional universe, the Prime Directive, Starfleet’s General Order #1, is the most prominent guiding principle of the United Federation of Planets; The Prime Directive dictates that there be no interference with the natural development of any primitive society, chiefly meaning that no primitive culture can be given or exposed to any information regarding advanced technology or alien races…”

We (the U.S) are not that evolved at the moment.  We tend to try and “save” the world whether it needs or not. Obviously social structures in other countries are not our concern, but we should at the very least consider the consequences of what we do. The same way that destroying the forest affects the natural balance of fauna, we affect the natural balance of culture in any country that we occupy. This is especially true when the culture seems to counter our own.  In Baghdad the divorce rate is climbing.  We are not saying that is a bad thing.  Women who want to be liberated should be.  Unfortunately, men in Iraq are the ones with all the rights to divorce.  Are we helping the female cause there?  You tell us.
